Fruit of the Spirit

Grey received the sweetest book for Christmas called If I Was the Sunshine by Julie Fogliano and illustrated by Loren Long. Y’all, it is just captivating. The pictures are breathtaking and the simple rhymes leave us drawing deeper conclusions.

I’ve been studying the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians this week. In light of all of the heaviness around us, be it political, medical, or somewhere in between, I though we could all use something a little different.

Here’s my rendition of our beloved book, based on the fruit of the Spirit.

If I was love and you were hate,

I’d call you misery and you’d call me can’t wait .

If you were joy and I was sorrow,

you’d call me passing and I’d call you tomorrow

If I was peace and you were strife,

I’d call you a thief and you’d call me life.

If you were patience and I was hurry,

you’d call me miss and I’d call you don’t worry.

If I was kindness and you were hostility,

I’d call you irrelevant and you’d call me humility

If you were goodness and I was bad,

you’d call me hopeless and I’d call you glad.

If I was  faithfulness and you were doubt,

I’d call you unwelcome and you’d call me without.

If you were gentleness and I was rough,

you’d call me imposing and I’d call you enough.

If I was self-control and you were anger,

I’d call you unruly and you’d call me game-changer.

Galatians 5:22-26 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit”

Ephesians 4:2-3 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

Colossians 3:14 “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
